About Teater Refleksion

Every year Teater Refleksion welcomes families with children, grandparents, schoolchildren and daycare groups to our children’s theatre in the heart of Aarhus. Teater Refleksion is both an experiental universe, a workshop for creative ideas and an ambitious playground for all ages, where the audience can experience professional children’s theatre and take part in various creative workshops.

Bjarne Sandborg is the artistic manager of the theatre. Back in 1990, he founded Teater Refleksion with a dream to create a children’s theatre specialising in puppet and animation theatre. That dream has since become more than 30 performances, which have given joy to children and adults all over the world.

We often use puppets, objects and animation to create our stories, and although many of our performances are wordless, the ’language’ is rich and the stories very much alive. Through movements and timing, the characters’ state is described, thereby stimulating our natural ability to understand a differentiated, nonverbal language.

In other occasions, the audience is invited into sensuous rooms, where marvellous visual universes are brought to life through scenography, lighting, sound, and animation. In each case our wish is to create theatre for children and adults that invites to storytelling and activities with room for thought:

Throughout the years we’ve been nominated for three Reumert Awards – and bestowed with a figurine in 2017 when our theatre installation ’Gerda’s journey’ won the Reumert Award for ’Best Children and Youth Performance’.

Teater Refleksion travels both nationally and internationally. Thousands of children and adults across the globe have visited our performances during our annual tours throughout large parts of Europe and in countries such as the USA, Australia, China, and Japan.

Every day we look forward to welcoming children and adults in our children’s theatre in Aarhus. We look forward to presenting new and exciting performances for many years to come.
